Distinguishing between male and female cannabis plants is vital for growers who want high-quality buds. Around week 4–6, check where the leaves meet the stem (called the nodes).
Female plants develop tiny white hairs or pistils — these will later form buds. Male plants, on the other hand, grow small round pollen sacs that look like miniature balls.
If both are grown together, males can pollinate females, reducing bud production. To maximize yield, remove male plants as soon as they’re identified. Early detection keeps your garden full of strong, productive females ready for harvest.
